June 9, 2009

Call to Order: President Ken Wunsch called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. In attendance were Doug Pals, Lorrie Graaf, Marv Rohn, Kevin Kelley, Mark Pierson, Ken Wunsch, Shawn Woolman, Laurie Peterson, and Pastor Ron Burcham.
Not present was Scott Snyder.

Visitor Recognition: Bill Jesse, Executive Director, was present, as well as Laura Rath as recording secretary.

Consent Agenda:

  • The minutes from the May 2009 meeting were approved by consensus.
  • After discussion, the financial report was also approved.

Senior Pastor Report:

  • Pastor Burcham reported that Candidate Philip Robarge and his family have moved into their new home. Candidate Robarge will be ordained at his father’s church on June 21, and installed as Gloria Dei’s Associate Pastor on Sunday, July 12 at 3:30 p.m. The service will be followed by a reception in the Family Life Center.
  • The Board reviewed the updated Employee Handbook, presented by Pastor Burcham and Executive Director, Bill Jesse.
  • Pastor Burcham reported on preliminary work on the three initiatives, which begin in July.
    • The Reveal study is planned for October 2009.
    • The Ministry Directors, along with Pastor Burcham and Bill Jesse, Executive Director, are discussing plans for this fall. Currently, Gloria Dei has more kids than can be accommodated on Wednesday nights. The Ministry Staff is exploring possible solutions.
    • The dates for staff quarterly and annual planning meetings have been set and presented to the staff

Monitoring Affirmation:
Parish Paper: The Board discussed the topic of the June issue: “One Congregation: Many Locations” in relation to Gloria Dei’s current limited space. The Board acknowledged that it is important to stay open to possibilities put before us by God.

Actions:
Congregational Listening Post – approximately 16 people attended the two Budget Town Hall Meetings on Sunday, June 7.

Annual Meeting – Sunday, June 14, 1 p.m.
Slate of Governing Board nominees: Casey Fluegge, Jason Hoffman, Kevin Kelley, and Mark Kramer.

Governing Board Retreat – The Board discussed the possibility of attending a retreat in the July/August timeframe. Available dates of Board members will be looked at for scheduling.

June 14 – Annual Voters’ Meeting, 1 p.m.
June 14 – Discovery 201, 3 p.m.
July 14 – Governing Board Meeting (Materials due July 9)

After the Lord’s Prayer, the meeting was adjourned at 8:05 p.m.
